About the position

The Senior Research Scientist role at Humana involves applying advanced analytical techniques to improve population health and reduce healthcare costs for Medicare Advantage beneficiaries. This position is part of a multi-disciplinary Clinical Analytics team that collaborates with clinicians and strategy partners to develop data-driven solutions. The role requires a strong foundation in quantitative disciplines and offers the opportunity to influence enterprise clinical strategies through rigorous data analysis and innovative research.

Responsibilities

  • Research, prototype and scale new ideas to impact population health and cost of healthcare
  • Collaborate with analytic and business teams to set objectives, approaches, and work plans
  • Leverage a wide range of analytics methods to transform complex data into actionable insights
  • Collaborate with clinicians to define clinical concepts and extract relevant information for analytics
  • Translate analytic results into key takeaways for business partners
  • Understand department and organizational strategy and their linkages to related areas
  • Make decisions regarding work methods in ambiguous situations with general guidance

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a quantitative discipline such as Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Economics, Statistics, Clinical Informatics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related fields
  • 3-5 years of professional experience leveraging structured and unstructured data
  • Experience working with healthcare data or a strong interest in healthcare
  • Proficient in manipulating and analyzing data with programming languages such as Python, R, or SAS
  • Demonstrated strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Healthcare or managed care working experience
  • Experience with medical, pharmacy, and lab claims
  • Experience with big data and using PySpark, Spark R or Spark Scala
  • Experience with causal inference and advanced machine learning algorithms
  • Familiarity with clinical concepts related to various chronic conditions
  • Deep understanding of healthcare payer economics and related areas
