About the position

The Hartford's Group Benefits (GB) organization is embarking on a transformative journey to enhance our claims management systems, and we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Cloud Engineer to be a pivotal part of this evolution. This role is not just about maintaining existing systems; it is about innovating and creating cloud-based solutions that will significantly improve customer experience while ensuring flexibility, scalability, and speed to market. As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you will be instrumental in migrating our on-premise platforms to AWS and developing new solutions that leverage the full suite of AWS services. In this position, you will engage in a variety of activities including the design, implementation, orchestration, automation, and maintenance of our cloud adoption journey. You will be expected to translate complex business requirements into effective cloud solutions, adhering to established principles and patterns. Collaboration is key, as you will partner with the architecture team to develop cloud application architecture that supports cloud-native solutions. Your role will also involve building and supporting a robust continuous deployment framework, ensuring that our cloud solutions are not only functional but also reliable and efficient. A significant aspect of this role is mentoring and coaching team members who are new to AWS, fostering a culture of learning and experimentation. You will implement proactive monitoring and observability measures to predict and detect system anomalies, ensuring that we can address issues before they impact our services. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about automation, coding, and working collaboratively across teams to drive cloud enablement and innovation.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop cloud-based solutions in AWS that are scalable, highly available, fault tolerant, and easily maintainable.
  • Translate business requirements into design and operationalization of cloud solutions, adhering to principles, patterns, and guardrails established by the enterprise.
  • Partner with the architecture team in the development of cloud application architecture, enabling cloud-native solutions.
  • Build and support a robust continuous deployment framework for cloud solutions.
  • Effectively partner with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to drive cloud enablement.
  • Collaborate with fellow developers to design, develop, implement, and support complex technical solutions.
  • Implement proactive monitoring and observability to predict/detect system anomalies with alerts to avoid system impacts.
  • Mentor team members as they embark on their individual cloud journeys.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software development experience and best practices.
  • 3+ years of developing and operating production workloads in AWS cloud infrastructure.
  • 3+ years of API development, implementing/integrating with databases, testing, and troubleshooting experience.
  • 7+ years of Java development experience.
  • 3+ years of Informatica IDMC is highly desirable.
  • Computer Science / Information Technology related degree or related technical experience.
  • Hands-on experience working with AWS core services and deploying cloud-based solutions using AWS services such as S3, RDS, DynamoDB, Lambda, API Gateway, ECS, IAM, KMS, SNS, SQS.
  • Hands-on experience writing infrastructure as code leveraging CloudFormation or Terraform and maintaining the continuous integration and deployment pipelines.
  • Proven ability to work with cross-functional teams and translate requirements between business, project management, and technical projects or programs.
  • A practical understanding of DevSecOps and Agile methodologies.
