About the position

SOPHiA GENETICS is on a mission to revolutionize healthcare through data-driven decision-making. We are seeking a Senior Cloud Engineer to play a pivotal role in the strategy and development of our cloud infrastructure and security. This position is crucial for enhancing our proprietary SOPHiA DDM platform, which integrates genomics, radiomics, clinical, and other data modalities to assist healthcare professionals and patients in combating cancer and rare diseases. The Senior Cloud Engineer will be responsible for designing, architecting, and implementing secure cloud infrastructure solutions, primarily on Azure, while also leveraging Kubernetes for scalable operations. This role will not only involve technical execution but also mentoring junior engineers, acting as a subject matter expert, and collaborating with engineering teams to troubleshoot and analyze root causes of issues.

Responsibilities

  • Design, architect, and implement secure cloud infrastructure solutions on cloud platforms, particularly Azure.
  • Oversee Kubernetes design, implementations, and operations at scale.
  • Mentor junior cloud engineers to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for Microsoft Azure and Kubernetes, providing guidance and support.
  • Assist engineering teams in troubleshooting and performing root cause analysis for cloud-related issues.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience as a Cloud Engineer, DevOps Engineer, SRE, or in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing secure cloud infrastructure solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of Kubernetes and its operational aspects.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and Ansible.
  • Strong understanding of cloud platform security features, particularly for Azure.
  • Familiarity with observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, and Loki.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively with engineers and stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of cloud architecture principles and best practices.
  • Extensive experience with cloud infrastructure services including virtualization, networking, storage, and compute services.
  • Strong scripting skills in languages such as Python and shell scripting.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex cloud-related problems.
  • Leadership and mentoring skills to guide junior cloud engineers.
