About the position

The Lead Security Engineer, Cloud Security at Group 1001 will play a critical role in safeguarding our organization by leading our core Security Engineering and Cloud Security functions. This position is essential to ensure that stable and effective controls are built into both legacy and new technology systems. The Lead Security Engineer will own and manage security controls across infrastructure, user technology, and business-specific applications during a rapid period of evolution and movement to the cloud. This role requires a consistent standard of accountability for the team, ensuring the steady delivery of mission-critical results. In this key leadership position, the Lead Security Engineer will provide strong technical leadership, guidance, and support to a team of high-performing individuals. They will also be a driven contributor to a complex cloud migration and build-out. The responsibilities include developing and implementing a comprehensive cloud security strategy that aligns with business goals and objectives, evaluating, selecting, and maintaining cloud security tools, policies, and best practices for public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP. The Lead Security Engineer will enforce security policies and procedures for cloud-based solutions and architecture, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations. Additionally, the role involves collaborating with cross-functional leaders to ensure alignment with overall technology and business needs across multiple cloud environments. The Lead Security Engineer will drive a high-performing Security Engineering team to address internal, external, and emerging security risks throughout the organization. They will also evaluate and select security vendors and solutions that support a complex environment of infrastructure, maintaining strong working relationships across the vast security vendor landscape. Leadership and management responsibilities include collaborating with senior leadership to prioritize security initiatives, managing resource allocation effectively, and leading a team of security engineers, architects, and analysts. The Lead Security Engineer will set clear objectives, provide technical guidance, facilitate professional growth, and assume accountability for strategic initiatives, proposing innovative solutions and actively steering them to successful completion. They will also identify areas for improvement in security processes, policies, and technologies and drive initiatives to enhance security effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive cloud security strategy aligned with business goals and objectives.
  • Evaluate, select, and maintain cloud security tools, policies, and best practices for public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Enforce security policies and procedures for cloud-based solutions and architecture ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional leaders to ensure alignment with overall technology and business needs across multiple different cloud environments.
  • Drive a high performing Security Engineering team to address internal, external, and emerging security risks throughout the organization.
  • Develop and execute a strategic security engineering strategy aligned with security goals and risk management.
  • Evaluate and select security vendors and solutions that support a complex environment of infrastructure; maintain strong working relationships across the vast security vendor landscape.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership across the organization to prioritize security initiatives and manage resource allocation effectively.
  • Lead and manage a team of highly driven security engineers, architects, and analysts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's in Cyber Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field is expected.
  • 8+ years progressive experience in Information Security leadership roles, with a focus on Cloud Security, Security Engineering or Security Architecture.
  • Extensive background in information security services, operations and the people, process, and technology that makes them successful in a fast moving, dynamic business environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior leadership.
  • Experience with database data access management including SQL, BigQuery and Snowflake.
  • Experience working with cloud native solutions such as AWS Guard Duty, Cloudtrail, Lambda, IAM as well as related solutions in Azure, GCP.
  • Experience with modern Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform or Ansible.
  • Familiarity with common application development languages and libraries, and common application security flaws that apply to Python, Java/Kotlin and frontend JavaScript/React/Node frameworks.
  • Strong knowledge and experience with modern container orchestration technology.
  • CISA, CISSP, CISM, CCSP, OSCP or other relevant security certification(s).
