About the position

The Senior Cloud Software Developer at the Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) will play a crucial role in designing and developing online platforms and software tools for astronomical data management. This hybrid position requires collaboration with a team of software developers and astronomers to create scalable, reliable, and secure cloud applications, primarily using AWS. The developer will also be responsible for migrating legacy data pipelines to the cloud and ensuring the delivery of high-quality software and science-ready data products to support the global astronomy community.

Responsibilities

• Develop scalable, reliable, and secure AWS native cloud applications
• Develop infrastructure configuration as Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using technologies such as Terraform and CloudFormation
• Implement CI/CD/CT pipelines to build, deploy, and test native cloud application code.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering, or a relevant field
• Minimum of 8 years working experience in an AWS Cloud environment
• Expertise in cloud-native application development and containerization (Kubernetes)
• Strong experience with AWS and proficiency in Python, Java, Node.js, BASH, and IaC tools like Terraform and CloudFormation
• Proficient in building automation tools and CI/CD/CT pipelines using platforms like Ansible, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, and CodePipeline
• In-depth knowledge of AWS services (EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, API Gateway)

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with scientific programming and the Jupyter ecosystem
• Familiarity with data archives and cloud data storage management
