About the position

The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is seeking a Senior Cloud Software Developer to join its Data Management Division. This hybrid position involves designing and developing online platforms and software tools for astronomical data, with a focus on migrating legacy data pipelines to the public cloud. The role supports the astronomy community by ensuring high-quality software and science-ready data products are available to astronomers worldwide.

Responsibilities

• Develop scalable, reliable, and secure AWS native cloud applications
• Develop infrastructure configuration as IaC using technologies such as Terraform and CloudFormation
• Implement CI/CD/CT pipelines to build, deploy, and test native cloud application code.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Software Engineering or a relevant field
• Minimum of 8 years working experience in an AWS Cloud environment
• Expertise in cloud-native application development and containerization (Kubernetes)
• Strong experience with AWS and proficiency in Python, Java, Node.js, BASH, and IaC tools like Terraform and CloudFormation
• Proficient in building automation tools and CI/CD/CT pipelines using platforms like Ansible, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, and CodePipeline
• In-depth knowledge of AWS services (EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, RDS, S3, API Gateway)

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with scientific programming and the Jupyter ecosystem
• Familiarity with data archives and cloud data storage management
