About the position

The Senior Cloud Solutions Engineer (AWS) at GDIT will support the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) team by engineering custom cloud solutions. This role involves collaborating with product owners to deploy applications, streamline operations, and promote DevOps best practices. The position is remote but prefers candidates within commuting distance to Rockville, MD.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with product owners to design topologies for custom applications on AWS.
• Provide guidance on best practices for secure cloud technology use.
• Assist development teams in migrating products from on-prem infrastructure to AWS.
• Train product teams in AWS technologies and frameworks.
• Develop prototypes and enhance platform capabilities such as CI/CD and serverless workloads.
• Participate in daily stand-up meetings to report on progress and roadblocks.
• Act as an AWS Cloud Subject Matter Expert on cross-functional teams.
• Present on DevOps best practices and cloud technologies during Tech Talks.

Requirements

• 8+ years of related experience in cloud solutions engineering.
• 3+ years of experience with AWS services such as ECS, EC2, S3, and Lambda.
• Working knowledge of infrastructure-as-code frameworks like Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Experience with Docker and container orchestration platforms like AWS ECS and EKS.
• Experience implementing CI/CD workflows using tools like GitHub Actions or AWS CodeBuild.
• Experience with configuration management tools such as AWS Systems Manager or Ansible.
• Ability to analyze solutions and identify technology gaps in cloud infrastructure.
• Strong presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to write comprehensive technical documentation.

• Experience in a Federal Scientific Health Research environment.
• Experience refactoring applications into cloud-native applications.
• Consulting experience with scientists and researchers on AWS solutions.
