The Community team at The New York Times is seeking a Senior Comment Moderator to join their dynamic and fast-paced environment. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the comments section remains a space for informed and thoughtful debate on pressing news topics. The Senior Comment Moderator will be responsible for reviewing, approving, and curating reader comments, adhering to the NYT comment moderation guidelines to maintain a high-quality user experience. This position also involves assisting Community team editors with various responsibilities, such as assigning articles for moderation to other moderators and managing the opening and closing of articles for comments. In addition to moderation duties, the Senior Comment Moderator will select comments for NYT Picks, collaborate with news desks to identify candidates for Reporter Reply, and provide analytical insights for various Audience team reports. The role requires a proactive approach to community engagement, as the ideal candidate will help shape The Times's roadmap for building communities within the comments section. The position is designed for someone with a strong background in journalism and a passion for community building, ideally with experience in managing or contributing to online discussion groups. The Senior Comment Moderator will work closely with the Community team to ensure smooth operations, which may include performing tasks typically assigned to Comment Moderators. The position operates on a Sunday-Thursday schedule, emphasizing the need for flexibility and adaptability in a constantly evolving news landscape.
