We are looking to hire a Senior Community Affairs Manager - USA Central, who will be responsible for designing, building, and operating Microsoft's global datacenters. This role involves managing the programmatic delivery of our critical infrastructure design, equipment procurement, construction delivery, infrastructure innovation, demand planning, and capacity utilization of our unified infrastructure. The Senior Community Affairs Manager will also oversee all operations needed to run the physical infrastructure, focusing on smart growth with an emphasis on automation, data-driven engineering, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability. In this position, you will act as a primary point of contact between the local community and Microsoft's datacenters. You will coordinate qualitative and quantitative data collection, turning that research data into actionable insights to understand and prioritize community needs, as well as identify social risks and opportunities. Using research findings, you will develop location-specific community strategies that align with Microsoft's mission and vision, including immediate corrective and preventive action recommendations and a local community communication plan. You will lead strategic engagements with local community groups, collaborate with global functional teams, and measure impact mapped to the global Community Affairs scorecard, delivering regular updates to the Community Affairs leadership team. This role requires travel of 25-50%.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a primary point of contact between the local community and Microsoft's datacenters.
  • Coordinate qualitative and quantitative data collection and turn that research data into actionable insights.
  • Develop location-specific community strategy that delivers on Microsoft's mission and vision.
  • Create a local community communication plan to share knowledge of the crucial role of datacenters.
  • Develop a local social impact investment plan aligned to community needs.
  • Lead strategic engagements with local community groups and municipal leaders.
  • Collaborate with global functional teams to localize and implement community research methodology.
  • Coordinate activities with a broad set of CO+I stakeholders.
  • Measure impact mapped to the global Community Affairs scorecard and deliver program updates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering, product/technical program management, data analysis, or product development OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 2+ years experience working directly with critical environments systems such as power and/or cooling.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in building trust with local municipality and community members.
  • Understanding of research methodologies and experience in developing strategic recommendations.
  • Experience with creating and implementing external communications plans, including crisis communication management.
  • Ability to work across groups managing individuals both directly and indirectly.
  • Experience managing contractors, agencies, and/or other third parties.
  • Experience with infrastructure development and/or construction.
