About the position

As a member of the American Red Cross, you will play a crucial role in managing the implementation of disaster services programming within a designated geographic area or regional functional activity. This position involves leading and managing a team of local Disaster Program management staff and volunteers who are responsible for executing disaster preparedness, response, and recovery programs. You will be tasked with planning, directing, and implementing strategic goals and objectives for the department or service, ensuring that disaster leadership volunteers are developed to meet the needs of the territory, region, state, and division. Your responsibilities will also include managing local preparation, response, and recovery efforts, as well as fostering partnerships with government entities within your assigned territory. In this role, you will empower volunteers by leading a diverse team responsible for implementing volunteer-led disaster services programming. You will oversee the successful execution of disaster cycle services activities, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations while managing sensitive information. Your leadership will be pivotal in championing the development of Disaster Leadership Volunteers, who will be integral to disaster readiness and response efforts. You will engage with community partners and stakeholders to mobilize resources and ensure that disaster services are delivered equitably and effectively. As a regional subject matter expert, you will maximize the Red Cross's presence and community engagement, prospecting partnerships with organizations that support frontline communities. You will also be responsible for initiating and managing disaster relief operations, serving as a leader during times of disaster, and deploying as needed. This position requires a commitment to the Red Cross's Fundamental Principles and adherence to standard operating procedures and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of local Disaster Program management staff and volunteers responsible for disaster services programming.
  • Plan, direct, and implement strategic goals and objectives for disaster services in the assigned area.
  • Ensure the development of disaster leadership volunteers to meet community needs during the disaster cycle.
  • Oversee the implementation of disaster cycle services activities and ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Engage and mobilize communities and partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
  • Build relationships and collaborate in a matrix management environment with internal partners and stakeholders.
  • Act as a regional disaster subject matter expert to enhance community engagement and mobilization.
  • Initiate and manage disaster relief operations in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
  • 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of program or service with the ability to create presentations and develop training modules.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills for continuous program improvement.
  • Proven collaboration, facilitation, problem-solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management skills.
  • Ability to plan, public speak, manage projects, and improve processes.
  • Intermediate proficiency with MS Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work outside of regular hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws.
