About the position

As a Senior Community Disaster Program Manager at the American Red Cross, you will play a pivotal role in managing the implementation of disaster services programs within a designated geographic territory. This position requires you to lead and manage a team of local Disaster Program Managers and Supervisors, ensuring the effective execution of disaster preparedness, response, and recovery initiatives. You will be responsible for planning, directing, and implementing strategic goals and objectives for the department, while also ensuring the development of leadership volunteers across various functional areas of the disaster cycle. Your work will directly impact the local community's ability to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies, making your role essential in meeting the needs of the territory, region, state, and division. In this capacity, you will evaluate and report on the effectiveness of programs and services, preparing recommendations for continuous improvement. You will also act as a facilitative leader, aligning with government agencies and enabling community participation in all phases of the disaster cycle. Building and cultivating professional relationships with key internal and external partners will be crucial, as you will serve as the Red Cross thought leader at the local level. Your responsibilities will include mobilizing the community, managing local responses during disasters, and ensuring that services are accessible to diverse populations. This role requires a commitment to compliance with standard operating procedures and applicable regulations, as well as a focus on fostering a collaborative, respectful, and inclusive work environment. You will have the opportunity to lead a primarily volunteer team, ensuring that all members are equipped to deliver comprehensive disaster services effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the implementation of the disaster services program in an assigned geographic territory.
  • Lead and manage a team of local Disaster Program Managers and Supervisors responsible for disaster preparedness, response, and recovery programs.
  • Plan, direct, and implement strategic goals and objectives for the department.
  • Ensure the development of Disaster leadership volunteers in each program support functional area of the disaster cycle.
  • Evaluate and report on the capacity and effectiveness of programs and services, preparing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and cultivate professional relationships with key internal and external partners and organizations.
  • Mobilize the local community to prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.
  • Manage local responses by deploying volunteers in a rapid and accessible manner during disasters.
  • Ensure that American Red Cross services are available to diverse communities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum 5 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  • 3 years of supervisory or management experience.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of program or service and ability to create presentations and develop training modules.
  • Ability to develop project plans, budgets, and strategies to achieve organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills for continuous program improvements.
  • Proven track record of collaboration, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management.
  • Ability for planning, public speaking, project management, and process improvement required.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with MS Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local employment laws.
