About the position

The Senior Compensation Analyst position within the Department of Human Resources is a civil service role focused on performing complex professional, technical, and analytical tasks related to classification and compensation activities. This role is essential for maintaining the Metro compensation system, conducting salary market research, and evaluating jobs to ensure competitive compensation plans for Metro Nashville Government employees. The position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for both in-office and virtual work, and is aimed at individuals interested in a rewarding career in public service.

Responsibilities

  • Create and/or revise job descriptions and compensation rules and policies.
  • Assess jobs for exemption status and appropriate salary range.
  • Gather and analyze information on salary, benefits, and HR practices.
  • Conduct special studies relating to compensation management activities.
  • Benchmark jobs against survey data and other market data to determine competitive compensation ranges for each position.
  • Gather data from market-based compensation surveys; use spreadsheet and data analysis techniques to assess results and market trends.
  • Prepare and present summary reports of job analysis, compensation analysis, and costing scenarios.
  • Develop salary surveys for distribution to peer cities and analyze results.
  • Respond to surveys from other municipalities or third parties.
  • Review and verify compliance of merit plans.
  • Process year end salary and/or classification changes for General Government employees.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three (3) years of professional HR experience in classification/compensation analysis.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in job analysis, documentation, and evaluation.
  • Experience with compensation management software such as Payfactors.
  • Skill in communicating compensation or other human resources policies and principles to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP), Society of Human Resources Management certification (SHRM) or other related Human Resources certification.
