About the position

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Compensation Analyst for University Human Resources (UHR). This position is pivotal in supporting the university's compensation activities and ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures. The Senior Compensation Analyst will work under the general direction of the Associate Director and will independently participate in various compensation activities throughout the university. This includes performing job evaluations, making recommendations for new position classifications, reclassifications, and in-grades, and assisting with reorganizations and union reviews in accordance with bargaining unit contract stipulations. The role requires a thorough understanding of compensation policies, which the analyst will communicate effectively to clients and staff. The incumbent will gather, analyze, and interpret internal and external job data, ensuring that all compensation practices align with university standards. Daily responsibilities include reviewing and completing submitted cases, providing compensation assistance to the UHR HR Consulting team, and collaborating with HR partners on salary determinations for new hires, promotions, and transfers. The analyst will also conduct classification studies, utilizing market survey data and job documentation to classify jobs accurately. Additionally, the role involves documenting compensation processes and ensuring compliance with contract provisions of staff unions, as well as participating in special projects to enhance strategic partnerships with clients. The Senior Compensation Analyst must stay informed about relevant federal, state, and university regulations, ensuring adherence to compliance standards as outlined in the Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy. This position is essential for maintaining a fair and equitable compensation structure within the university, contributing to the overall mission of Rutgers as a leading institution of higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Independently participate in compensation activities throughout the university.
  • Assist with the administration of UHR's Compensation policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Perform job evaluations and make recommendations for new position classifications, reclassifications, and in-grades.
  • Provide assistance with reorganizations and union reviews in accordance with bargaining unit contract stipulations.
  • Understand and communicate compensation policies to clients and staff.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret internal and external job data.
  • Review submitted requests for position classification and compensation consultation.
  • Collaborate with HR partners on salary determination for new hires, promotions, transfers, and other compensation actions.
  • Make recommendations regarding the classification and reclassification of assigned positions based on analysis and review of position documents.
  • Prepare comprehensive recommendations and conclusions for assigned cases.
  • Conduct classification and reclassification studies considering internal and external factors.
  • Utilize market survey data and job documentation to classify jobs based on their scope and nature.
  • Assist with the documentation of compensation processes, procedures, and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with contract provisions of staff unions in consultation with Labor Relations.
  • Participate in the review and maintenance of computerized systems related to compensation administration functions.
  • Participate in special projects to promote and strengthen strategic partnerships with clients.
  • Adhere to Rutgers' compliance standards as outlined in relevant policies.
  • Keep abreast of all pertinent regulations, laws, and policies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in compensation practices, including compensation programs, job evaluation, market pricing methodology, compensation modeling, and advanced analytics.
  • Experience in compensation practices, position classification, and compliance with applicable federal and state employment laws, preferably in higher education or a labor environment.
  • Computer proficiency and demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office products and data systems.
  • Excellent analytical, statistical analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information and manage complex situations and relationships.
  • Ability to navigate complex policies, contracts, and legal mandates to assist clients in achieving organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated track record in delivering exceptional client service.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working and negotiating with unions in a unionized environment.
  • Experience in planning, organizing, and analyzing the effectiveness of compensation programs.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification.
