About the position

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Senior Compensation Analyst for University Human Resources (UHR). This position is integral to the university's mission of attracting, retaining, and developing a diverse and highly skilled workforce. The Senior Compensation Analyst will report to the Director of Business Partner Services and will work under the general direction of the Associate Director. The role involves independently participating in various compensation activities across the university and assisting with the administration of UHR's compensation policies, procedures, and processes. The incumbent will be responsible for performing job evaluations and making recommendations for new position classifications, reclassifications, and in-grades. This includes providing assistance with reorganizations and union reviews in accordance with bargaining unit contract stipulations. The Senior Compensation Analyst will also be tasked with understanding and communicating compensation policies to clients and staff, as well as gathering, analyzing, and interpreting internal and external job data. Daily responsibilities will include reviewing and completing submitted cases while performing essential duties related to compensation matters. Key duties include providing compensation assistance to the UHR HR Consulting team, collaborating with HR partners on salary determinations for new hires and promotions, making recommendations regarding position classifications, preparing comprehensive recommendations for assigned cases, conducting classification studies, and ensuring compliance with contract provisions of staff unions. The role also involves participating in special projects to enhance strategic partnerships with clients and maintaining knowledge of relevant federal, state, and university regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Independently participate in compensation activities throughout the university.
  • Assist with the administration of UHR's compensation policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Perform job evaluations and make recommendations for new position classifications, reclassifications, and in-grades.
  • Provide assistance with reorganizations and union reviews in accordance with bargaining unit contract stipulations.
  • Understand and communicate compensation policies to clients and staff.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret internal and external job data.
  • Review submitted requests for position classification and compensation consultation.
  • Collaborate with HR partners on salary determination for new hires, promotions, and transfers.
  • Make recommendations regarding the classification and reclassification of assigned positions.
  • Prepare comprehensive recommendations and conclusions for assigned cases.
  • Conduct classification and reclassification studies considering internal and external factors.
  • Utilize market survey data and job documentation to classify jobs based on their scope and nature.
  • Assist with the documentation of compensation processes, procedures, and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with contract provisions of staff unions and university policies.
  • Participate in the review and maintenance of computerized systems related to compensation administration functions.
  • Participate in special projects to promote and strengthen strategic partnerships with clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in compensation practices, including job evaluation, market pricing methodology, and compensation modeling.
  • Experience in a unionized environment and negotiating with unions is preferred.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification is preferred.
  • Prior experience in the higher education setting is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, statistical analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, highly sensitive environment with exceptional organizational and communication skills.
  • Experience in managing sensitive and confidential information.
  • Ability to navigate complex policies, contracts, and legal mandates.
