About the position

The Senior Compliance Engineer will provide compliance leadership and project planning to ensure EMC, safety, and radio transmitter compliance across multiple Garmin locations throughout the product development process. This role involves collaborating with technology leaders to deliver high-quality products in various markets, including Automotive, Marine, Outdoor, and Sports, while utilizing advanced technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Garmin Technology leaders to deliver best-in-class products in various markets.
  • Create and implement complex regulatory compliance plans for major product development programs.
  • Contribute to advanced regulatory and standards research on new technologies, markets, and geographic regions.
  • Create and execute recovery plans as needed, displaying excellence in project management.
  • Identify compliance-related risks, effectively communicate threats, and suggest best means for avoiding or reducing risks.
  • Provide compliance direction and lead regulatory input during the product design process.
  • Lead compliance and safety design review meetings.
  • Independently determine general approach and specific solutions to compliance problems, offer process improvements, and author new procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Excellent academic record (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0).
  • Experience with ESD, EMC, EMI, or product safety testing and country certifications or homologations.
  • Understanding of production and operations issues related to compliance engineering.
  • Experience reviewing EMC or safety design aspects for circuit design/PCB layout.
  • Ability to explain and document regulatory and standards requirements and critique compliance plans.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in advanced concepts such as LPS, limited current circuit, single fault condition, insulation systems, CTI, etc.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous work or internship experience with circuit design for consumer or aviation products.
  • Outstanding academic record (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5).
  • iNARTE certification in EMC and/or Product Safety.
  • Past participation on a standards-writing committee.
  • NFPA membership and/or contributions to the NEC.
