About the position

As a Senior Construction Materials Engineering Technician at S&ME, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and compliance of construction materials throughout the project lifecycle. Your primary responsibility will be to conduct daily field testing and observations of various construction materials, including soil, concrete, rebar, asphalt, and aggregate, to ensure they meet industry standards and project specifications. This position requires meticulous documentation of the correct placement and utilization of these materials, as it is essential to guarantee that every aspect of the construction is executed correctly. At S&ME, we take this responsibility seriously, and your expertise will be vital in making sure that projects are built right. Your day-to-day activities will include reviewing plans and specifications to ensure alignment with project objectives before field observations commence. You will document field activities by recording detailed observations and testing results during project execution. Utilizing management systems such as Metafield® will be part of your routine to ensure efficient data management and coordination. Additionally, you will be responsible for calibrating equipment to industry standards to ensure the accuracy and reliability of both field and laboratory tools. Conducting Special Inspection observations in adherence to IBC guidelines will also be a key part of your role, ensuring comprehensive quality checks are performed. Effective daily communication with management, contractors, and clients will be essential to maintain project transparency and provide progress updates. Your experience and knowledge will contribute significantly to the success of our construction services team, and you will be a vital force for change in our projects.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily field testing and observations of construction materials.
  • Review plans and specifications to ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Document detailed observations and testing results during project execution.
  • Utilize Metafield® and/or other management systems for efficient data management.
  • Calibrate equipment to industry standards for accuracy and reliability.
  • Conduct Special Inspection observations adhering to IBC guidelines.
  • Engage in daily communication with management, contractors, and clients to maintain project transparency.

Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials.
  • Two or more active certifications: ACI Field Testing Grade I, Strength Testing Technician, Laboratory Technician, NICET Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils), ICC Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils), DOT specific in Aggregate, Density, Asphalt, and Concrete.
