About the position

ERM is seeking a Civil Project Engineer to join our technical Capital Project Delivery team in Charleston, West Virginia. This role involves providing engineering design and technical assistance on various projects, focusing on civil and environmental engineering design and permitting. The position offers an opportunity for professional growth within a global environmental consultancy, emphasizing client relationship management and technical consulting skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering design and technical assistance on civil and environmental engineering projects.
  • Support the Principal Consultant and team members in project meetings and mentoring junior staff.
  • Manage multiple small to medium scale projects concurrently, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to budget.
  • Act as the client point of contact for engineering and permitting teams, leading project delivery.
  • Generate technical proposals and engage in business development with existing clients.
  • Maintain client relationships to support repeat business and engage with regulatory agencies for permitting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineering license in KY, WV, OH, PA, MD, NC, VA, or DC, or willingness to seek reciprocity within one year of hire.
  • 2-3 years of progressively complex civil and infrastructure design experience, including consulting for private-sector clients.
  • Strong skillset in AutoCAD Civil 3D, with at least 3 years of experience in grading, profiles, and integrating survey data.
  • At least 2 years of experience with NPDES stormwater/wastewater permitting and environmental plan writing.
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite software.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare concise and accurate technical documents.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a project team.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with federal, state, and local permitting such as USACE.
  • Field experience including construction inspection/oversight.
