About the position

The Senior Consultant, Data Visualization role at Optum involves leveraging data analytics and visualization techniques to improve health outcomes. The position focuses on querying and manipulating large healthcare datasets, crafting data solutions, and effectively communicating complex information to stakeholders. This role is integral to the Optum Advisory Services Trend Analytics Consulting team, which is dedicated to health care cost analytics and advancing health equity.

Responsibilities

• Efficiently query and manipulate large databases of healthcare claims and eligibility data
• Write effective and efficient code both independently and under the guidance of project managers using best practice quality control procedures
• Identify root causes of unexpected data issues and implement long-term solutions
• Collaborate with the analytic and reporting team as both an individual contributor and team member
• Maintain high accuracy and attention to detail while managing multiple schedules
• Engage in client communications for data understanding, strategizing solutions, and documentation
• Organize and present communications to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders
• Produce clear and visually appealing reports applying principles of visual best practices

Requirements

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in data analysis, data science, data storytelling, and visualization
• 3+ years of experience building PowerBI data models and knowledge of relational databases
• 3+ years of experience handling terabyte size healthcare claims datasets
• 3+ years of advanced proficiency in SQL, SAS, R, and/or Python
• Advanced proficiency in MS Office products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio

Nice-to-haves

• 2+ years of experience with DAX and M coding
• 2+ years of experience with medical claims/utilization trend reporting
• 1+ years of experience with extracting data from Enterprise Data Warehouses and Data Lakes
• 1+ years of experience working with actuarial teams and understanding actuarial concepts
