About the position

The Senior Consultant at Ryan plays a crucial role in assisting historic building owners, architects, engineers, and contractors in navigating the Historic Preservation Certification process. This position involves providing expert advice on federal and jurisdictional tax credits, ensuring compliance with preservation standards, and fostering positive relationships with clients and regulators. The role requires a blend of technical expertise, strong communication skills, and the ability to work independently on complex projects.

Responsibilities

  • Creates a positive team member experience.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, displaying a positive demeanor and team spirit.
  • Handles client relationship and business development responsibilities.
  • Works independently and autonomously with contractors, owners, and regulators on projects.
  • Provides documentation and expert advice to all levels of the process, creating a client-facing partnership with key regulators.
  • Acts as an increased public-facing representative of Ryan.
  • Works with project design teams to approve work necessary to meet preservation standards.
  • Oversees the completion of regulatory filings and amendments as required.
  • Reviews compliance with state and federal regulations to ensure projects meet the SOI Standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree with strong writing and research capabilities (in History, Architectural History, Historical Preservation or equivalent preferred).
  • Minimum four years' experience with historic tax credit application projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and write persuasive technical arguments.
  • Work experience in comparable federal, state, or local preservation programs is preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and initiative working in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to conduct research both online and in archives.
  • Ability to multi-task and work independently in a deadline-driven and fast-paced environment.
  • Technical proficiency in Creative Cloud suite (especially InDesign) to layup photos, create maps, and photo keys.
  • Valid driver's license required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with historic preservation certification processes.
  • Familiarity with architectural plans and compliance standards.
