About the position

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Consultant, Mechanical Engineer to join our Power & Energy team in Augusta, ME. The candidate will be involved in projects with our Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges. This role requires collaboration with Program leadership to drive improvements in support of the Quality Plan, implementing a Program/Project focused Quality Plan to monitor, track, and report on quality documentation and progress. The Senior Consultant will be responsible for field inspections and controls, quality assessments, and administrative activities, ensuring adherence to the Program's Quality Contractor Program within the Project Management Plan. The position involves reviewing project design and vendor drawings and manuals to fully understand installation requirements, overseeing program quality activities to ensure conformance to the ISO certified Quality and Environmental Management Systems. The consultant will assist with contractor and staff training and communications of QMS and EMS processes and procedures, conduct drop-in assessments, and support the audit program. Coaching project teams on implementing project quality plans and corrective action plans is essential, as is identifying training needs in collaboration with operations leaders and delivering as required. The role also includes reporting quality concerns or deficiencies/improvements in the QA/QC system to the Quality Manager, performing and documenting non-conformances, root cause analysis, and lessons learned/best practice reviews to support continuous improvement initiatives. The consultant will provide early notification to senior management and the Quality Director on projects with quality concerns or issues, support quality-related continual improvement initiatives, and work on multiple projects simultaneously while providing expert input to the projects. The consultant will coordinate interfaces with other engineering disciplines and represent the project and corresponding discipline in front of the client, in coordination with the Project Engineer. Responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct is expected, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures. Additional responsibilities may be required by business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Review contractor and material supplier Quality Plans for adherence to the Program's Quality Contractor Program within the Project Management Plan
  • Review project design and vendor drawings and manuals in order to fully understand installation requirements
  • Oversee program quality activities to ensure conformance to the ISO certified Quality and Environmental Management Systems
  • Assist with contractor and staff training and communications of QMS and EMS processes and procedures

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline or closely related
  • 5+ years of experience with a minimum of 2 years' direct experience in construction and/or maintenance
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and equipment
  • Adept at using Microsoft Office programs, especially Outlook, PowerPoint, Word and Excel
  • Ability to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and address Quality issues in a construction environment
  • Completed an OSHA 30 Hour Outreach Construction Course or able to complete within one (1) year of start date
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects including tracking hours and expenses for project work
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment
  • Ability to work independently and provide guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies
  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Engineering
  • Engineer in Training Certification
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with Six Sigma, Quality Management System standards (i.e. ISO9001, TS-16949, etc.)
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with Environmental Management System standards (i.e. ISO 14001)
  • Six Sigma Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification preferred.
