About the position

WSP is currently seeking a Senior Consultant, Structural Engineer for our Miami, FL office. This role involves engaging in complex projects with our Florida Team and contributing to a growing organization that aims to meet client objectives and solve their challenges. The Senior Consultant will provide technical assistance and guidance for multi-site/phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and/or construction of building and infrastructure projects in both the public and private sectors. Responsibilities include assisting with research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as buildings, bridges, roadways, and mechanical structures. The role requires substantiating reports and documentation regarding materials, installations, and construction specifications, ensuring that responsibilities are delivered with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality. In this position, the Senior Consultant will provide professional design services for bridge and other projects for FDOT and other transportation agencies, as well as private sector clients. The role involves performing professional structural engineering work, conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, and ensuring conformance with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits. The consultant will develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates, prepare construction safety and phasing plans, and update infrastructure layout plans that require coordination with owners, other disciplines, sub-consultants, and clients. Additionally, the consultant will determine methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources for project development, design, and construction. The Senior Consultant will work as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, architects, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects. Responsibilities include assisting with the layout of installations, establishing reference points/elevations/grades to guide construction, selecting appropriate materials, calculating costs and quantities, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications and compliance documentation. The consultant will also assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during site investigations, offering input for developing action plans for risk mitigation activities. The role requires interaction with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner, and the consultant must remain current in the latest structural engineering techniques and practices. The position also involves exercising responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources, adhering to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies, and performing additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide professional design services for bridge and other projects for FDOT and other transportation agencies and private sector clients.
  • Perform professional structural engineering work and conduct research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, resources, bridges, buildings, infrastructure, and transportation channels.
  • Develop construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; prepare construction safety and phasing plans, and update infrastructure layout plans.
  • Determine methods for collecting, compiling, and analyzing data from various sources for project development, design, and construction.
  • Develop or incorporate advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies for structural engineering design.
  • Work as part of a cross-functional team to execute project work on multiple concurrent projects.
  • Assist with the development and scoping of medium-sized projects.
  • Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers.
  • Prepare technical reports and presentations explaining research, findings, and recommendations.
  • Assist in the analysis, evaluation, and interpretation of data obtained during site investigations.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements pertaining to data integrity, documentation, and compliance.
  • Interact with regulatory agencies, subcontractors, and clients in a professional manner.
  • Remain current in the latest structural engineering techniques and practices.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds and resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 5 to 7 years of relevant post-education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.
  • Florida PE or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • Proficient knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and application to project work-related issues.
  • Experience with infrastructure planning, design, and construction management.
  • Working knowledge of sustainability practices and reducing hazardous substances/greenhouse gas.
  • Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
  • Ability to make technical computations and calculations involving engineering principles.
  • Project management experience with small to mid-level projects.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly capable self-leadership with attention to detail and multi-tasking abilities.
  • Experience with discipline-specific design software (e.g., Bentley Open Bridge modeler, MicroStation, AutoCAD).
  • Proficiency with technical writing and office automation tools.
  • Developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to assertively direct others in the field to complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and compliance with policies.
