About the position

The Senior Control Systems Engineer at Manufacturing Technology, Inc. (MTI) is responsible for designing, documenting, integrating, and maintaining electrical and software systems for custom-built friction welding machines and standard robot part handling automation. This role involves collaborating with a team of engineers to develop control systems solutions, ensuring effective operation of friction welding machines, and providing technical support to service technicians and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Controls Engineers, Applications Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers to provide machine controls system solutions.
  • Design, develop, and review code, test, and debug system software including machine start-up and debug.
  • Integrate and validate new product designs.
  • Support software quality assurance.
  • Interface with hardware design and development.
  • Interpret controls systems requirements from customer specifications and project scope documents.
  • Develop technical and electrical controls systems requirements.
  • Develop machine sequence and control flow charts.
  • Develop Human Machine Interface programs for machine control.
  • Develop Robot programs for material handling.
  • Create design documentation such as theory of operation and machine set-up instructions.
  • Provide technical support to Service Technicians and customers.
  • Participate in design, architecture, and programming conventions of Controls applications.
  • Advocate and maintain Controls programming standards.

Requirements

  • Proficient in programming languages and methods including Ladder Logic and ST/SCL for machine control.
  • Experience integrating safety control systems using Siemens and Allen-Bradley technologies.
  • Ability to create, read, and edit electrical schematics and related documentation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Attention to detail and results-driven.

Nice-to-haves

  • PLC/Motion Control Programming with Logix Designer / Studio 5000 and TIA Portal.
  • HMI Design with FactoryTalk View Studio and WinCC.
  • Experience with electrical schematic and panel design using AutoCAD Electrical or ePLAN.
