About the position

Senior Control Systems Engineer positions administer and supervise the Automation and Process Control group for the Public Utilities Department; operate and maintain the Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Department Information Network (DIN), Facility Information Network (FIN), and the Process Information Network (PIN); review designs and standardization of the control systems within and between facilities; evaluate and oversee the design, development, implementation, and testing of systems related to area of responsibility; develop and implement system enhancements to improve reliability and performance; prepare reports and correspondence; interview, train, evaluate, and rate subordinates; and perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and supervise the Automation and Process Control group for the Public Utilities Department.
  • Operate and maintain the Distributed Control Systems (DCS), Department Information Network (DIN), Facility Information Network (FIN), and the Process Information Network (PIN).
  • Review designs and standardization of the control systems within and between facilities.
  • Evaluate and oversee the design, development, implementation, and testing of systems related to area of responsibility.
  • Develop and implement system enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
  • Prepare reports and correspondence.
  • Interview, train, evaluate, and rate subordinates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Four years of full-time professional industrial engineering project management experience which MUST include supervisory and managerial duties.
  • Registration as a Professional Control Systems Engineer with the State of California.

Nice-to-haves

  • One year of full-time professional experience in a water/wastewater control system environment such as design, construction, facility start up, systems operation, or maintenance.
  • Experience with the Emerson Ovation, AVEVA Wonderware, or WDPF DCS technologies, application hardware/software.
  • Experience with PLC, SCADA, and PC technologies.
  • Experience with and knowledge of Industrial Controls CyberSecurity procedures and NIST Standards.

  • 2% wage increase effective 1/1/25
  • 5% wage increase effective 7/1/25
  • 31% additional pay for Senior Control Systems Engineer employees with valid State of California registration as a Professional Control Systems Engineer.
