About the position

The Senior Controls Engineer at Celgard is responsible for installing, modifying, and servicing process control systems within the manufacturing facility. This role involves providing electrical engineering support, driving continuous improvement in automation and control processes, and collaborating with various teams to enhance manufacturing operations. The engineer will utilize their expertise in PLC programming, electrical design, and troubleshooting to solve complex issues and support the installation of new equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Support equipment installation and modification in coordination with Project and Process Engineering initiatives.
  • Provide day-to-day support for all software and hardware that comprise the plant control network including PLCs, drives, switches, routers, and PC diagnostics.
  • Work closely with Manufacturing Technicians, Process Engineers, Project Engineers, and I&E Technicians to diagnose PLC system and process issues and provide electrical design solutions.
  • Collaborate with vendors of PLC hardware/software & SCADA software to troubleshoot and enhance equipment performance.
  • Analyze process data and create process trend graphs using SCADA supervisory systems.
  • Set up, modify, and analyze alarm & event display and archiving.
  • Participate on cross-functional continuous improvement teams and lead improvement projects to automation & electrical systems.
  • Maintain compliance with all plant safety systems and policies, and applicable laws/regulations.
  • Utilize lean manufacturing methodologies and problem-solving tools to identify and resolve issues in Process Control code and hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical field.
  • Minimum of 4-6 years' experience with Rockwell (Allen Bradley) PLC programming & software analysis in a manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth experience installing and supporting industrial control systems and control networks including PLCs, drives, switches, routers, and industrial communication protocols.
  • Proficiency with control methodologies such as PID loop configuration and analysis, sequential programming, and motor speed control.
  • Highly proficient with RS 5000, RS500, and Panel builder software.
  • Experience programming and supporting platforms like Mitsubishi PLCs and Rockwell GuardLogix.

Nice-to-haves

  • AutoCAD experience
  • Ability to read & edit P&ID drawings
  • Experience writing technical communications including electrical and control drawings.
