About the position

The Senior Controls Engineer at E Tech Group is responsible for the development, implementation, testing, and startup of technical solutions in automation and control systems, particularly for the metals industry. This role involves close collaboration with project managers and other engineers to deliver high-quality solutions while maintaining effective communication with management and customers regarding project status. The position is hybrid, requiring in-office presence 1-2 days a week in Portage, IN, and candidates must reside within a 2-hour commute of the office.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement automation and control systems for metals industry applications
  • Collaborate with engineering and support teams to ensure successful project completion
  • Manage aspects of project budget and schedule requirements
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of standards and best practices
  • Develop overall system and communication architecture for industrial control projects
  • Specify and configure various hardware components such as AC/DC drives, switchgear, and industrial control panels
  • Perform functional testing of electrical and control systems
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers
  • Generate functional requirements documentation and test procedures
  • Support the sales team in the development of technical solutions

Requirements

  • BS Engineering degree or equivalent educational background
  • 7+ years of experience in industrial automation with design, programming, and commissioning of industrial automation equipment
  • Working knowledge and experience with PLC, VSD, and SCADA systems
  • Strong software and data communication problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Lead field start-up testing of electrical and programmed control systems, drive setup, installation inspection, operational readiness testing, and site acceptance testing
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • A DNA comprised of collaboration and teamwork

Nice-to-haves

  • Experienced in industrial controls design and hardware selection and familiarity with UL508 and NEC
  • Advanced PLC programming capabilities including logic, arithmetic, loop control, and time-based functions
  • Advanced drive systems programming and control in AC and DC systems
  • Ability to create screen mimics of processes and coordinate, display, and record historical data in an Industrial setting
  • Higher level software applications and databases including industrial control communication interfaces and process modeling
