About the position

The Senior Controls Engineer position is focused on delivering innovative automation solutions and designing control systems for industrial processes and machinery. This role requires a high level of technical proficiency in implementing automation solutions using various platforms such as PLC, HMI, SCADA, and DCS/Delta V. The engineer will lead projects, develop control system architecture, and ensure that customer requirements are met while overseeing project profitability and team guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver innovative automation solutions and design standards either self-directed or as a leader of a team.
  • Conceptualize, detail, and implement control systems for industrial processes and machinery that meet customer requirements.
  • Develop control system architecture, select components, detail schematic diagrams and system documentation.
  • Program controllers (PLC, DCS/Delta V) and process visualization (HMI/SCADA).
  • Develop databases for archiving/displaying historical system data.
  • Implement and commission control systems at client facilities.
  • Knowledge of controller programming languages such as Ladder, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text, and others to achieve desired results.
  • Design, detail, and implement a variety of industrial networking systems (fiber, wired, wireless) using industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.).
  • Perform project management responsibilities: develop project execution plans, work breakdown structures, and associated budgets, prioritize and schedule tasks, track and report time and financials, identify problems early, resolve conflicts, lead and support a team, and attend project status meetings.
  • Oversee daily operations and activities of projects up to $10M, ensuring overall project profitability.
  • Act as technical lead on projects and guide lower-level engineers and technicians; could also act as Project Manager on smaller projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical/Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Over 8 years of experience in automation solutions and control systems.
  • In-depth understanding of Emerson DeltaV platform.
  • Experience in PLC-5 to ControlLogix conversions.
  • Understanding of PLC hardware/software platforms (Rockwell Automation, Siemens, Modicon).
  • Understanding of HMI/SCADA hardware/software platforms (Rockwell Automation FactoryTalk, Plant Pax, Aveva System Platform, Inductive Automation Ignition, GE iFIX, Siemens Winn CC, TI Portal).
  • Understanding of DCS hardware/software platforms such as Emerson DeltaV or similar.
  • Project management experience; PMP certification is a plus.
  • Understanding of Batch/Recipes, OEE, MES, and ERP systems.
