About the position

Shields Health is seeking a Senior Corporate Accountant to join our team in Quincy, MA. This full-time position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for three days in the office and two days working from home. The Senior Corporate Accountant will play a crucial role in our accounting department, contributing to various accounting functions that are essential for the financial health of our organization. In this role, the Senior Corporate Accountant will be responsible for managing the month-end and year-end close processes, performing account reconciliations, and preparing financial reports. The position requires collaboration with the Director of Accounting on special projects and new business ventures, making it a high-exposure role with significant growth potential. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of GAAP, public accounting experience, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines. This position also offers the opportunity to mentor junior staff accountants, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, be highly organized, and possess advanced proficiency in accounting software systems, with a preference for experience in Sage Intacct. Strong Excel skills and effective communication abilities are essential for success in this role. The Senior Corporate Accountant will actively participate in the full month-end close cycle, prepare and review internal and external reporting packages, and perform variance analysis to ensure the accuracy of financial statements. Additionally, the role involves supporting the budgeting process and collaborating with the FP&A team on various projects.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate and support the full month end close cycle to include preparation of journal entries, allocations and month-end reconciliations for 40+ legal entities
  • Prepare and review internal and external reporting packages consisting of operating company P&L, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow statements and other supporting schedules
  • Perform monthly balance sheet, cash flow, and P&L variance analysis, noting unusual or one-time variances while ensuring the accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly
  • Collaborate across the Shields network to gather financial information for monthly close
  • Prepare year-end related items including tax and audit work papers
  • Proactively recommend improvements to increase efficiency and effectiveness of the month-end close and the financial reporting process
  • Support budgeting process and FP&A team
  • Perform ad hoc requests & participate in new business projects

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting (CPA Preferred)
  • Minimum 5 years progressive accounting experience
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP
  • Skilled in Public Accounting
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced environment and meet deadlines
  • Team player who embraces collaboration, change and process improvement
  • Excellent problem solving/analytical skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to multi task and prioritize
  • Proficiency with accounting software systems; experience with Sage Intacct is beneficial but not required
  • Desire to mentor staff accountants
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
