About the position

The Senior Corporate Counsel for the Digital Crime Unit (DCU) at Microsoft is responsible for leading global investigations and driving high-impact disruption operations against sophisticated cybercriminal networks and online threats. This role focuses on proactive civil litigation, legal and technical innovation, and external outreach to defend against cyberattacks targeting customers and democratic institutions. The DCU is a global team dedicated to combating cybercrime and protecting customers through strategic partnerships and innovative legal strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently and on cross-discipline teams on various projects related to investigation, litigation, and enforcement action.
  • Oversee the collection and production of accurate information in drafting court filings, law enforcement referrals, and internal/external cybersecurity reporting.
  • Develop and implement legal and technical strategies to scale the DCU's operations, including the ongoing incorporation of AI technology.
  • Provide legal advice on government requests for data and voluntary disclosure of data.
  • Engage with government officials, industry representatives, and customers regarding various cybersecurity and cybercrime issues.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 6+ years of experience as a practicing attorney or equivalent experience.
  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.
  • Ability to translate complex technical findings for a broad range of stakeholders, such as law enforcement, legal counsel, and executives.

  • Ability to develop, evaluate, and execute high-impact strategic projects and adapt to quickly shifting guidance and priorities.
  • Familiarity with the Electronic Communication Privacy Act and other laws governing disclosure and access to electronically stored data.
  • Experience managing projects and partnering with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience working in or with technology companies or emerging technologies, including AI.
  • Expertise in high-risk incident response within internet or technology companies, including privacy, data security, or consumer protection subject matter.
