About the position

The Senior Corporate Counsel is responsible for providing legal advice on employment law matters and managing intellectual property issues. This role involves collaborating with various business functions, particularly Human Resources, to ensure compliance with employment regulations while supporting the company's goals. The position reports directly to the General Counsel and offers flexibility for remote or hybrid work, with a preference for candidates located in Aliso Viejo, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the company and senior leadership on federal and state employment regulatory and compliance matters.
  • Provide day-to-day proactive employment law advice on hiring, leaves, wage and hour compliance, disciplinary actions, and termination.
  • Recommend, implement, and continuously improve employment law-related policies and trainings.
  • Stay updated on new employment laws and advise the company on compliance strategies.
  • Partner with outside counsel to manage and maintain the intellectual property portfolio, primarily trademarks.
  • Perform other functions as directed by the General Counsel.

Requirements

  • 4+ years of combined top law firm and/or in-house experience.
  • Strong background in California employment law.
  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and bar admission in California required.
  • Credibility and presence to interact with and present at senior executive levels.
  • Superior problem-solving skills and legal judgment with high ethical standards.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects with attention to detail.
  • High level of professionalism and outstanding business judgment.
  • Collaborative approach to legal problem solving and effective internal client counseling.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior in-house experience preferred.
  • Prior trademark experience preferred.
  • Prior healthcare company experience preferred.

Benefits

  • Compensation range of $155,000 - $175,000 per year.
  • Eligibility for a Short-Term Incentive Plan with a target at 20% of annual earnings.
