About the position

The Senior Cost Accountant at TerrAscend plays a crucial role in supporting the month-end close process, focusing on cost accounting, inventory valuation, and financial analysis. This hybrid position involves collaboration with various departments to enhance financial reporting and ensure accuracy in accounting practices, while also driving process improvements and cost efficiencies within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Accounting Managers in driving the Month-End Close process for multiple entities.
  • Participate and supervise daily accounting department tasks.
  • Prepare and review appropriate ledger entries and accruals, focusing on cultivated and manufactured inventory and related costs of production.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of assigned balance sheet and profit/loss accounts, including monthly balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting Managers and other internal departments to design and implement processes that establish controls related to costs of production.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects, including the implementation of a new ERP system (Epicor/Wherefour).
  • Work closely with the Accounting Manager, Controller, and external auditors during quarter and year-end close to support reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Plan and collect data to determine costs of business activities such as raw material purchases and labor expenditures.
  • Review and analyze significant variances of actual to standard manufacturing costs and recommend improvements.
  • Make estimates of new and proposed product or service costs and recommend cost efficiencies to senior management.
  • Review and provide input for new manufacturing equipment capital expenditures.
  • Develop and deliver management reporting and analysis of manufacturing efficiency performance.
  • Analyze changes in product packaging design, raw materials, and manufacturing methods to determine effects on costs.
  • Drive continuous improvement programs to reduce product costs through interaction with Operations.
  • Support all accounting month-end and year-end processes, completing required journal entries and analysis.
  • Compile information for operating budget preparation, including material, labor, and overhead costs by P&L line item.
  • Set up new standard costs or changes to existing standards and develop recommendations for establishing direct labor and factory overhead rates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a concentration in business or accounting.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Manufacturing and Cost Accounting experience required.
  • Knowledge of U.S. GAAP as it relates to inventory.
  • Experience working in a highly computerized environment and processing financial transactions using an ERP system.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Analytical, detail-oriented, and honest.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Supply Chain Management preferred.
  • Public accounting experience preferred.
  • Experience with Epicor and/or Wherefour preferred.
