About the position

The Senior Creative Director (design) at WashU Medicine is a pivotal role focused on leading large-scale creative campaigns that support various initiatives across the institution. This position combines strategic oversight with hands-on design work, ensuring that the creative team delivers industry-leading visual marketing and communications. The Senior Creative Director is responsible for managing both in-house staff and external partners, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment that aligns with the university's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the creative strategy and visual expression of the brand for all projects, including print, digital, social, video, and environmental design.
  • Provide clear and productive creative direction to team members and ensure the work aligns with the overall strategy.
  • Monitor projects through all phases of production and manage multiple assignments while adhering to budget and time constraints.
  • Lead, inspire, and develop a creative team of art directors and copywriters, fostering an environment of collaboration and creativity.
  • Present and sell the department's work to clients, demonstrating how it addresses their challenges.
  • Ensure the professional development of the creative team, providing training and supervision to enhance their skills and capabilities.
  • Promote the overall creative capabilities of the department and share best practices with the creative staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 5 years of progressive responsibility in multi-media storytelling within a news, non-profit, corporate, or creative agency setting.
  • Strong proficiency in advertising, creative services, and public relations.

Nice-to-haves

  • M.A. - Master of Arts in a relevant field.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Studio and environmental graphic design.
  • Skills in active listening, brand identity, and creative strategies.
