About the position

The Senior Credit Analyst position within the Affordable Housing Team at Western Alliance Bank is a critical role focused on analyzing, structuring, underwriting, and coordinating the closing of major and complex commercial loans. This position is essential for ensuring compliance with the Bank's lending policies and procedures while actively participating in the underwriting and closing of desirable credits alongside the Relationship Manager. The Senior Credit Analyst will be responsible for monitoring and identifying credit risks, thereby contributing to the attainment of established Bank, region, and branch goals. This role requires a thorough understanding of the Bank's policies, as well as applicable state and federal banking regulations, to ensure that all operations are conducted within legal and ethical boundaries. In this role, the Senior Credit Analyst will work closely with the Portfolio Manager to perform detailed financial statement analyses, which often involve complex interlocking relationships. The analyst will assist in preparing monthly tracking and draw requests related to multifamily and Direct Pay Letter of Credit products, as well as conducting annual reviews on existing products, including property-level and guarantor financial analysis. The position also involves supporting underwriters and business development officers in gathering necessary information for credit requests and preparing reports required by the line of business. Additionally, the Senior Credit Analyst will perform industry analyses and provide recommendations based on their findings, while keeping the Chief Credit Officer and Loan Officers informed of relevant trends affecting specific loans, portfolios, or industries. This role is pivotal in providing credit information and references for customers, loan officers, or other agencies as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, structure, and underwrite major and complex commercial loans in compliance with Bank policies.
  • Coordinate the closing of loans and ensure credit risks are monitored and identified.
  • Work with the Relationship Manager to manage loans effectively.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly tracking and draw requests for multifamily and Direct Pay Letter of Credit products.
  • Complete annual reviews on existing multifamily and Direct Pay Letter of Credit products, including financial analysis.
  • Support underwriters and business development officers in obtaining necessary information for credit requests.
  • Prepare reports required by the line of business.
  • Perform industry analysis and provide recommendations based on findings.
  • Inform CCO/Loan Officers of relevant trends affecting loans, portfolios, or industries.
  • Provide credit information and references for customers and loan officers as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from a 4-year college or university, preferably in Finance or Accounting.
  • 1-3 years of commercial underwriting experience at a financial institution.
  • Exceptional credit knowledge and underwriting skills in Commercial Real Estate lending.
  • Advanced experience in financial statement and tax return analysis.
  • Strong portfolio management skills for timely identification of credit concerns.
  • Outstanding presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Excellent multitasking abilities to handle multiple credit requests.
  • Self-starter with an entrepreneurial attitude and positive outlook.
