About the position

The Senior Credit Portfolio Manager at HTLF plays a crucial role in managing the credit risk associated with the company's diverse portfolio. This position is responsible for identifying potential risks, monitoring existing loans or debt instruments, and developing effective strategies to mitigate these risks. The Senior Credit Portfolio Manager will also be tasked with underwriting and implementing credit policies and procedures that align with the company's objectives. In this role, the manager will develop and manage a portfolio of credit products aimed at achieving growth, profitability, and risk objectives. This involves conducting thorough analyses of customer behavior and market trends to identify opportunities for product development and improvement. The Senior Credit Portfolio Manager will oversee the entire product lifecycle for assigned products, which includes product design, development, pricing, promotion, and ongoing maintenance. As a subject matter expert, the manager will provide valuable input and guidance on product strategy, features, and benefits. Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal and external partners is essential, as the manager will collaborate with teams across sales, marketing, operations, finance, and compliance. Regular monitoring and reporting on key performance indicators for assigned products will be required, along with proactive risk management to ensure that potential threats are identified and addressed. The Senior Credit Portfolio Manager will prepare and present detailed reports on portfolio performance to senior management, ensuring that the company remains informed and responsive to market dynamics. Additionally, the manager will complete annual E-Learning Plans and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) training as assigned, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of BSA regulations as they pertain to the role.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and manages a portfolio of credit products to achieve growth, profitability, and risk objectives.
  • Conducts analysis of customer behavior and trends to identify opportunities for product development and improvement.
  • Manages the end-to-end product lifecycle for assigned products, including product design, development, pricing, promotion, and ongoing maintenance.
  • Serves as subject matter expert on assigned products, providing input and guidance on product strategy, features, and benefits.
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with internal and external partners, including sales, marketing, operations, finance, and compliance.
  • Monitors and reports on key performance indicators for assigned products, taking action as necessary to ensure desired results are achieved.
  • Stays abreast of industry trends and developments, identifying potential threats and opportunities for the business.
  • Proactively identifies and manages risks associated with assigned products, working with relevant parties to develop and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Prepares and presents reports on portfolio performance to senior management on a regular basis.
  • Completes annual E-Learning Plan and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) training as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration/Management, Finance, or a related field required.
  • 5-7 years of related experience as a Credit Analyst, Portfolio Manager, or Commercial Loan Officer required.
  • Strong analytical skills and an understanding of general economic theory as it relates to the lending and business environment required.
  • Demonstrated understanding of credit analysis, risk analysis, and accounting and finance principles required.
  • Working knowledge of commercial and agricultural lending, credit, and appropriate banking laws and regulations required.
  • Strong credit underwriting skills with experience in credit structuring and accommodating customer credit needs required.
  • Proven track record of demonstrating accuracy and thoroughness with a focus on improving and promoting quality required.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of customer and credit information required.
  • Ability to effectively manage competing deadlines for projects in a high-pressure work environment, with minimal supervision required.
  • Thorough understanding of bank policies and procedures required.
  • Experience with ProfitMax, InfoAccess, nCino, Credit Lens (Moody's), AS400/Fiserv, and/or other related computer programs required.

Nice-to-haves

  • RMA - Credit Risk Certification - CRC - Risk Management Association - RMA within 1-1/2 years preferred.
