About the position

The Senior Cryptography Engineer at MITRE Corporation plays a crucial role in modernizing cryptographic systems and applying innovative cryptographic solutions to enhance data security and privacy. This position involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including government sponsors, to address complex cybersecurity challenges through the application of advanced cryptographic techniques and research.

Responsibilities

• Contributing to secure system design and applied cryptography for MITRE and its sponsors.
• Engaging in collaborations with academia, industry, and MITRE to create and apply cryptography-based solutions.
• Proposing and leading research into novel approaches to secure system design involving cryptography.
• Working on urgent problems related to cryptographic best practices, implementation requirements, and technical solutions for privacy.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree; or 3 years with a Master's degree; or a PhD with relevant experience in cybersecurity or applied cryptography.
• Must have a Secret level clearance and U.S. citizenship.
• Working knowledge of cryptographic algorithms and protocol standards such as TLS, IKE/IPsec, S/MIME, OAuth.
• Deep technical understanding of cryptography or applied cryptography.
• Demonstrated experience collaborating successfully with teams.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Active DoD Top Secret / SCI Clearance.
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
• Experience in cryptographic or cryptanalytic research.
• Experience with cryptographic algorithm and/or protocol coding, especially quantum resistant algorithms.
• Desire to conduct independent research applicable to government sponsor problems.
• Prior successful experience leading teams.
