About the position

The Senior Cyber Security Engineer / Information Systems Security Engineer (ISSE) at Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is responsible for supporting cybersecurity initiatives at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB) in Washington, DC. This role involves conducting information system security engineering activities, ensuring security is integrated into system designs, and collaborating with engineering teams to incorporate cyber resiliency throughout the systems development life cycle (SDLC).

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Information Systems Security Officer (ISSE) providing technical input and recommendations for cybersecurity approaches and solutions.
  • Participate in acquisition meetings and technical exchange meetings to ensure security requirements are met.
  • Design and develop security requirements that minimize risk while maintaining operational capability.
  • Maintain a system-wide view of security functions and apply risk mitigation strategies during engineering meetings.
  • Guide and verify defense contractors' work against program requirements and goals.
  • Interface with program managers to explain security requirements and risks relative to cost and schedule.
  • Evaluate newly identified threats and vulnerabilities to customer information systems and develop implementation strategies to reduce risk.
  • Enforce trusted relationships among external systems and architectures.
  • Assess proposed changes to customer information systems for impacts to cybersecurity architectures and compliance.
  • Provide inputs to development teams for designing and upgrading organizational information systems.
  • Implement best practices for security requirements in information systems, including secure design and coding techniques.
  • Stay updated on current security technologies and threats to support cybersecurity resilience.
  • Identify integration issues related to new systems and recommend mitigation options.
  • Assist in designing systems and networks that encompass multiple enclaves with differing data protection requirements.

Requirements

  • 8+ years' technical experience in cybersecurity, information technology, or systems engineering.
  • Active Top Secret clearance required, SCI Eligible.
  • Understanding of cybersecurity needs of systems at various stages of the SDLC.
  • Firm understanding of DoD 8500.1-M, DoDM 5205.07, Volume 1, JSIG, NIST SP 800-53, and ICD Number 503.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to translate technical needs into specifications.
  • Ability to complete tasks and drive projects to closure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to assess and articulate risk to non-technical audiences.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with DISA Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) implementation.
  • Experience working on-site in a government client environment.
  • Familiarity with security procedures in a SCIF/SAPF environment.
  • Cloud Security Implementation experience.
  • Familiarity with NSA requirements for COMSEC.
  • Experience with DoD Acquisition Lifecycle and Rapid Acquisition / Rapid Delivery.
  • Expertise in system security engineering processes and risk management.
