The Cyber for Identity Trust and Assurance department is a multi-disciplinary team of researchers and practitioners focused on innovation in areas such as Cryptography, Software Assurance (SWA), Identity, Credential and Access Management (ICAM), and Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence (AI). We develop scalable approaches for systems and software, evaluate technology and solutions, and foster partnerships within the communities we support. Our team plays critical roles in aiding the government community by applying cryptography, developing SWA programs, and facilitating the deployment of ICAM solutions. We also work at the intersection of Cybersecurity and AI, developing trustworthy approaches to applying AI in cybersecurity applications. As a Senior Cybersecurity Engineer, you will join our team to modernize crypto-based systems, adopt new post-quantum algorithms, and apply crypto-based solutions for data and computational security and privacy. You will provide thought leadership in secure system design, engage in collaborations with academia and industry, propose and lead new research, and work closely with department leadership to evolve our strategy and technical capabilities. Your role will involve addressing urgent problems for our sponsors, sharing technical advice, and mentoring staff in your domain of expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Provide thought leadership in secure system design, development, and analysis for MITRE and its sponsors.
  • Engage in collaborations with academia, industry, and across MITRE to create, evaluate, and apply rigorous methods for secure systems and protocols.
  • Propose and lead new research into novel approaches to secure system design involving applications of authentication, authorization, software practices, and cryptography.
  • Work with department leadership and subject matter experts to evolve strategy and technical capabilities in alignment with sponsor needs.
  • Collaborate on urgent problems for sponsors, applying best practices in system design and identifying solutions for privacy and authentication.
  • Provide exemplary leadership, mentorship, and technical advice to staff.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Applied Mathematics, or related technical field of study.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating successfully with teams.
  • Proven ability to build and leverage relationships that positively impact work.
  • Track record of impactful work and making a difference.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with proactive, critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in a related technical field.
  • Working knowledge of software development practices and software security.
  • Experience in formal methods for software and distributed systems theory and practice.
