About the position

Ontra is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to join our Research & Development team, reporting directly to the Manager of Data Analytics. This role presents an exciting opportunity for a data-driven individual to lead analytics projects and strategies that support our flagship product, Contract Automation. The Senior Data Analyst will collaborate closely with various product stakeholders to generate significant business impact and drive the product roadmap through insightful data analysis. In this position, the Senior Data Analyst will not only execute projects but also take on a technical leadership role, guiding other Data Analysts in extracting valuable insights from our extensive legal data sets. This will inform product development and business strategies. As you deepen your understanding of Ontra's products and business operations, you will also be responsible for defining and tracking key metrics that drive business improvements. The environment at Ontra is fast-paced, and we prioritize direction over perfection, making this an ideal role for someone eager to dive into data to inform product decisions. The Senior Data Analyst will be expected to build a comprehensive understanding of Ontra's datasets and business needs, develop measurement strategies, and provide insights that will inform both product and business objectives. You will influence product strategy by utilizing data to help the product team set goals, measure progress, and identify new opportunities. Additionally, you will partner with product and business leaders to define measurable success goals and create mechanisms to track them. Training stakeholders to utilize our BI tool, Sigma, will also be a key part of your role, enhancing their confidence in self-service analytics. As a subject-matter expert, you will advocate for data-driven decision-making across the organization and represent data requirements in discussions with Product, Engineering, and Design teams. Furthermore, you will provide mentorship to junior Data Analysts, setting new standards for technical excellence within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Build a thorough understanding of Ontra's datasets and business needs.
  • Develop metrics, measurement strategies, and insights that inform product and business needs.
  • Use data to help the product team set goals, measure progress, and uncover new opportunities.
  • Build data foundations and influence data collection strategy for new features.
  • Partner with product and business leaders to define measurable goals for success.
  • Create mechanisms to measure success and train stakeholders in using the BI tool, Sigma.
  • Influence stakeholders to adopt a data-driven mindset and strengthen the data-driven culture across Ontra.
  • Represent data requirements and best practices in conversations with Product, Engineering, and Design.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior Data Analysts.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in exploratory data analysis, manipulating data sets, and delivering insights that inform business decision-making.
  • Fluency in SQL, including constructing complex joins, filters, window functions, and aggregations.
  • Advanced knowledge in at least one of the following: scripting for analysis (Python, R), data modeling (dbt), A/B testing.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with technical and non-technical leaders across the organization.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with strong attention to detail and skepticism toward analysis results.

  • Experience with data visualization tools and techniques.
  • Familiarity with legal data sets or the legal industry.
