About the position

The Senior Data Analyst - Travel Demand Modeler will manage and update multilayer models for the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC), focusing on transportation modeling and analysis. This role involves providing modeling support for various planning studies, validating and calibrating travel demand models, and researching emerging transportation technologies. The position requires effective communication of technical information to diverse audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and update H-GAC multilayer models including activity-based model, 4-step travel demand model (TDM), dynamic traffic simulation model (DTA), and micro-simulation model.
  • Provide modeling support for corridor planning studies, sub-area planning studies, and special planning studies.
  • Demonstrate expertise and experience in TDM validation and calibration.
  • Assist in researching and developing modeling features related to emerging transportation technologies, transformative modes, and shared mobilities.
  • Prepare advanced technical information and effectively communicate that information to external and internal audiences orally, in writing, and in presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in an applicable academic discipline or related field of study.
  • 5 years of experience working with local government, nonprofit programs, school, or in job-related duties.
  • Technical expertise in one or more transportation modeling software programs: Bentley (Citilabs) CUBE VOYAGER, TransCAD, PTV VISUM, VISSIM, VISTRO, and Synchro.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and visualization software: GIS or Tableau.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage the technical components of a travel demand modeling project.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in (urban) planning, transportation engineering, or a related field of study on traffic forecast modeling.
  • Hands-on experience in Python or R.
  • Familiarity with GIS and experience working with and visualizing spatial data.
