About the position

The Senior Data Architect Analyst at Loyola University Chicago plays a pivotal role in developing strategies for business intelligence, reporting, and data warehousing. This position is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the university's data models, which includes developing strategies for removing outdated data and integrating new data sources. The analyst will evaluate new data sources to ensure they meet the organization's quality standards and can be easily integrated into existing systems. This role requires extensive experience and judgment to effectively plan and accomplish goals, and it involves leading and directing the work of others, allowing for a wide degree of creativity and latitude in the execution of tasks. In this position, the analyst will analyze user requirements and current operational procedures to enhance Business Intelligence and Reporting applications. They will interact with clients to assist with the installation, configuration, training, operation, customization, and troubleshooting of Business Intelligence and Reporting products. A deep understanding of ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and Business Intelligence tools is essential to develop best practices guidelines. The analyst will also be responsible for installing, configuring, upgrading, and tuning Business Intelligence and ETL software to ensure optimal functionality. Additionally, the Senior Data Architect Analyst will provide strategic advice to management regarding Business Intelligence and Reporting, acting as the principal data architect and primary technical resource for BI and reporting applications. Mentoring and instructional support for members of the Business Intelligence staff will also be a key responsibility. The role may include other duties as assigned, contributing to the overall success of the department and the university's mission.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strategies for business intelligence, reporting, and data warehousing.
  • Clean and maintain the university's data models by removing outdated data and integrating new data sources.
  • Evaluate new data sources for adherence to quality standards and ease of integration.
  • Analyze user requirements and current operational procedures to improve Business Intelligence and Reporting applications.
  • Interact with clients for installation, configuration, training, operation, customization, and troubleshooting of BI and Reporting products.
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and tune Business Intelligence and ETL software for optimal performance.
  • Provide strategic advice to management regarding Business Intelligence and Reporting.
  • Act as principal data architect and primary technical resource for BI and reporting applications.
  • Mentor and provide instructional support for Business Intelligence staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or related field required; master's degree preferred.
  • Four to six years of experience in data warehousing or a directly related area required.
  • Excellent speaking, listening, writing, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from clients and co-workers.
  • Project management and organizational skills.
  • Commitment to service.
  • Leadership in the use and administration of Business Intelligence and ETL.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience in higher education is a plus.
  • Familiarity with relational database concepts and tools including SQL and SQL developer tools.
  • Knowledge of data warehouse concepts and design.
  • Extensive knowledge of WebFocus and Congos ETL tools.
  • Knowledge and experience with Oracle (PeopleSoft) technologies or similar large-scale vendor software and systems.
