About the position

As a Senior Data Architect for the Results Data Exchange product within IT Data Engineering at IDEXX, you will be responsible for designing and developing enterprise data solutions that ensure access, performance, and security of data systems. This role involves translating strategic requirements into a usable enterprise data framework, guiding data solutions development, and maintaining extensive knowledge of databases in relation to business operations. You will work with a team focused on cloud-based big data projects and traditional data warehouse applications, utilizing a tech stack that includes AWS, Snowflake, and various database technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain the overall system's technical architecture.
  • Collaborate with technology and management teams to understand structural requirements and define standards for data management.
  • Build an inventory of data needed to implement the architecture and create a vision for data flow.
  • Design and build complex data models and approve modifications to systems.
  • Implement measures to ensure data accuracy and accessibility, monitoring and refining performance.
  • Produce and enforce database development standards.
  • Provide architectural design and planning of technical activities, including application architecture and system change management.
  • Ensure interoperability at the data level across relevant Company products and services.
  • Mentor other development and business teams on data architecture design and requirements.
  • Manage incoming technical requests and design systems for optimum performance.

Requirements

  • Experience as a Data Engineer, ETL developer, or report metadata designer.
  • Ability to build distributed and cloud-based data pipeline architectures.
  • Familiarity with Hadoop-based technologies like MapReduce, Spark, and Hive, as well as SQL-based technologies like Oracle, PostgreSQL, and MySQL.
  • Experience with NoSQL technologies like Cassandra and MongoDB.
  • Proficiency in Python and industry-standard entity relationship modeling software.
  • Strong problem analysis and resolution skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Initiative and drive in work.

Nice-to-haves

  • Skills in data and information modeling for relational, semi, and non-structured datasets.
  • General DevOps skills, including building infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Development management experience.
