About the position

The Senior Data Architect role at Amazon Web Services (AWS) focuses on helping U.S. Federal agencies implement innovative data solutions using cloud computing technologies. This position requires a strong understanding of data architectures and integration approaches, along with consultative and leadership skills to ensure project success. The role involves collaborating with various stakeholders to design and build robust data platforms that support large-scale computing solutions, while also mentoring teams and driving innovation in data architecture practices.

Responsibilities

  • Enable AWS Professional Services to help customers succeed in their journey to use AWS by building well-architected solutions.
  • Innovate customized solutions for unique customer challenges, leveraging prior work to benefit future projects.
  • Design solutions in collaboration with customer stakeholders, ensuring adherence to AWS best practices and high performance.
  • Collaborate with AWS Engineering, Support, and Business Development teams to build optimal solutions and influence the AWS services roadmap.
  • Build technical solutions for engagements with partners and customers, applying expertise to solve complex data problems.
  • Deliver solutions through a combination of on-site and off-site work, ensuring customers are self-sufficient post-engagement.
  • Mentor and provide leadership on data architecture best practices, fostering innovation and excellence.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of database experience (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, Hadoop, Spark, Kafka, Kinesis).
  • 3+ years of experience with cloud-based solutions (AWS or equivalent), systems, networks, and operating systems.
  • Bachelor's degree or 7+ years of professional or military experience.
  • 7+ years of experience in customer-facing, complex, and large-scale project management.
  • Current, active US Government Security Clearance of Top Secret or above.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5+ years of experience in designing, developing, and optimizing robust data architectures on AWS, including data lakes and data warehouses.
  • 7+ years of experience architecting and optimizing SQL and NoSQL databases, and developing ETL processes.
  • 4+ years of experience implementing distributed compute data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hive, Redshift).
  • 3+ years of experience designing data architectures for machine learning and analytics platforms.
  • 3+ years of experience developing and integrating APIs for data access and integration.
  • 3+ years of experience leveraging modern data stack technologies, including workflow orchestration tools like Airflow.
  • 3+ years of experience implementing data governance solutions for metadata management and data quality.
