About the position

The Senior Data Architect at Guardian is responsible for establishing and maintaining a robust data infrastructure that ensures high-quality, consistent data access for authorized users and applications. This role involves leading the development and delivery of data software products, managing workflows using Agile methodologies, and designing data architecture solutions that align with business objectives. The architect will also assist in enterprise-level data integrations and apply disciplined software development methodologies to enhance data access patterns.

Responsibilities

  • Define and prioritize the team backlog, manage stakeholders, and ensure value delivery to customers.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Data Architecture to define requirements and set team priorities.
  • Lead the implementation of data software development methodologies, including visual workflows and work-in-progress limits.
  • Work with an agile team to deliver and evolve data engineering and services.
  • Collaborate with IT colleagues and business partners to convert specifications into scalable data solution designs.
  • Perform data analysis activities including data profiling and creation of data dictionaries.
  • Design, deliver, and document multi-platform architecture focusing on data standards and performance.
  • Develop and maintain logical and physical data models for applications.
  • Coordinate across organizations to support data integration efforts.
  • Support and apply data standardization policies.
  • Establish and maintain the quality and performance of all processes.
  • Participate in quality assurance and user acceptance testing for data initiatives.
  • Seek innovative solutions for data challenges.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of IT experience, with 10+ years as a Data Architect or data professional.
  • Solid grasp of data architecture principles, patterns, and data governance.
  • Expertise in relational database concepts and experience with multiple database technologies (SQL, NoSQL, Oracle, Hadoop, Postgres).
  • Proficiency in data modeling tools, preferably Erwin, with strong logical and physical data modeling experience.
  • Hands-on experience in data engineering with extensive knowledge of SQL and PySpark on Databricks.
  • Experience designing and optimizing data pipelines for large-scale data warehousing projects.
  • Familiarity with cloud data services such as Redshift, RDS, Snowflake, and Databricks.
  • Demonstrated expertise in data sourcing, profiling, mapping, and analysis.
  • Strong SQL and PL/SQL experience, skilled in creating and optimizing queries.
  • Knowledge of ETL concepts, preferably Informatica or Syncsort.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with SQL-on-Hadoop technologies (HIVE, Presto, Spark SQL, Databricks).
  • Ability to design cloud and on-premise data solutions across various platforms.
  • SAFe experience and ability to work on cross-functional, self-organizing teams.
