About the position

Alvarez & Marsal is seeking a skilled Data Architect to join our corporate IT team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in expanding and designing our internal data warehouse and business intelligence functions, which support over 18 different business lines. Your primary responsibilities will include designing, building, and enhancing our SQL data warehouse, managing ETL processes, and working within Azure environments. You will also be tasked with troubleshooting data and database issues, ensuring that our data architecture is robust and efficient. To excel in this position, you will need a keen eye for detail and a solid understanding of data architecture fundamentals. You will be responsible for designing and commissioning new subject areas, implementing new or upgraded cloud data strategies, and creating Entity Relationship diagrams. Writing relational database queries and maintaining referential integrity will also be key components of your role. Additionally, you will manage master data, including its creation, updates, and deletion, and design, implement, and help maintain ETL migrations to Azure Data Factory. Your role will involve processing confidential data according to strict guidelines, providing quality assurance for imported data, and collaborating with business stakeholders and analysts. You will participate in peer design reviews and development sessions, develop data models, and be responsible for data acquisition, access analysis, and recovery. Supporting initiatives for data integrity and normalization will be essential, as will capturing requirements from internal customers and managing user requests for datasets. You will adhere to SDLC processes to ensure proper coding practices and train end users on new data elements. Your technical expertise will be vital in data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing, and you will apply best practices in data pipeline and model design to create flexible data solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, commission and enhance new/current subject areas.
• Implement new or upgraded cloud data strategies and Azure platforms.
• Create Entity Relationship diagrams and write relational database queries.
• Create database objects and maintain referential integrity.
• Manage master data, including creation, updates, and deletion.
• Design, implement and help maintain ETL migrations to Azure Data Factory.
• Process confidential data and information according to strict guidelines defined by the subject area owners.
• Provide quality assurance of imported data, working with business stakeholders and business analysts.
• Participate in peer design reviews and development sessions within the team.
• Develop data models and is responsible for data acquisition, access analysis, archive, recovery, load design and implementation.
• Support initiatives for data integrity and normalization.
• Collaborate with internal customers to capture requirements.
• Design, create, document, manage and fulfill user requests for new or existing datasets.
• Adhere to SDLC processes and standard to ensure proper coding practices are adhered to.
• Train end users on new data elements.
• Provide technical expertise on data storage structures, data mining, and data cleansing.
• Apply best of breed data pipeline and data model design patterns to achieve robust and flexible data solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent from an accredited institution in computer science.
• Work experience as a data architect or in a related field.
• Prior professional services experience preferred.
• Strong Azure data stack experience.
• Well versed in Data Structures algorithms.
• Ability to work with stakeholders to assess potential risks.
• Ability to analyze existing tools and databases and provide software solution recommendations.
• Ability to translate business requirements into non-technical, lay terms.
• High-level experience in methodologies and processes for managing large scale databases.
• Demonstrated experience in handling large data sets and relational databases.
• High-level written and verbal communication skills.
• Knowledge of building modern data reporting solutions in cloud technologies including Power BI a plus.
• Knowledge of Enterprise Data, Data Warehousing, Azure Cloud Data platforms.
• Integration experience with multiple source systems such as Salesforce, custom developed systems using REST API.
• Modeling warehousing and ETL methodology making use of cloud-based technologies in the Microsoft Stack (Microsoft SQL Server along with complementary technologies such as Azure Data Studio, Azure Data Factory, Blob Storage).
