About the position

The Senior Database Analyst position at the Florida Department of Education (FDOE) is a critical role within the Florida Education and Training Placement Information Program (FETPIP). This position involves developing SAS programs and SQL queries to produce datasets, reports, and other work products essential for the FDOE's mission to enhance educational outcomes for students across Florida. The analyst will be responsible for transitioning new projects from concept to completion, ensuring that all processes are documented and replicated accurately. This includes performing technical writing, creating and updating documentation, and conducting data analysis, extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) processes. In addition to technical responsibilities, the Senior Database Analyst will assist in developing processes that enforce data standards and manage databases effectively. The role requires a strong commitment to data security and confidentiality, adhering to state and federal privacy laws. The analyst will also coordinate with staff to maintain the integrity of the FETPIP database, ensuring efficient data handling and the incorporation of new technologies as needed. The position demands a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to work under tight deadlines while balancing multiple priorities. The FDOE serves a vast educational community, and the Senior Database Analyst will play a vital role in supporting data-driven decision-making that impacts approximately 3 million students and thousands of educational professionals across the state. This position is located in Tallahassee, FL, at the Turlington Building, and is part of a collaborative team dedicated to improving Florida's education system.

Responsibilities

  • Develop custom SAS programs and/or SQL queries to produce datasets, reports, and other work products as required.
  • Develop, update, and maintain database documentation including data dictionaries, user documentation, application, and system documentation.
  • Develop and maintain SAS programs and/or SQL queries to perform ETL processes to load data into the FETPIP database from customer-created files.
  • Create, alter, and update existing SQL tables as required using SQL code.
  • Plan, design, program, and test database manipulations to extract selected data elements for FETPIP applications for reporting and analysis.
  • Coordinate with staff in the use and development of the FETPIP database to maintain data security and integrity, ensure efficient data handling, and provide for the incorporation of new hardware and software developments where appropriate.
  • Actively protect and ensure data confidentiality for all FETPIP data through strict adherence to all State and Federal privacy laws, rules, regulations, and standards.
  • Follow and enforce mandates and conditions for existing data sharing agreements for which FETPIP is a party.
  • Assist the team in maintaining and providing improvements to FETPIP's web page including periodic and annual updates and web asset management.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the FETPIP director.

Requirements

  • Relevant bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One (1) to two (2) years writing intermediate to complex SQL queries or SAS programs.
  • One (1) year of data analysis and reporting experience.
  • Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment and handle multiple priorities.
