About the position

Oracle OCI continues to grow aggressively, increasing data center capacity globally and at significant scale in key markets. We are seeking to recruit a design mechanical engineer with extensive experience in the datacenter space to join the formed and growing data center design team. The team is responsible for setting the design standards for OCI's partners, be they colocation providers or developers. The team will be the center of excellence for all aspects of data center design, supporting the compute, network, and storage solutions deployed to deliver OCI's world-class and highly secure cloud services to the world's largest and most successful businesses. In this full-time position, you will have the opportunity to work remotely while also being required to travel from time to time. As a Senior Data Center Design Mechanical Engineer, you will lead and manage projects or other design and engineering initiatives, providing guidance and engineering leadership to ensure that these initiatives meet or exceed company expectations. You will utilize your expert operating knowledge of engineering systems, including advanced diagnostics and repairs, to resolve non-routine issues and ensure safe working practices are adhered to by yourself and others. You will also contribute to identifying and developing training programs for newer team members, acquire knowledge through experience with systems, vendor training, and participation in industry groups, and serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in many systems, training others both inside and outside of the group. Your role will involve providing expert input for effective contract administration, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to the creation and maintenance of best-in-class policies and procedures. You will consistently solve complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve, making recommendations for system-level enhancements to eliminate potential problems. Your extensive knowledge of multiple facets of the relevant engineering discipline will be crucial as you develop and execute projects and lead engineering or construction-related seminars and conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and manages a project or other design and engineering initiatives.
  • Provides guidance and engineering leadership in ensuring project or other design and engineering initiatives are meeting or exceeding company expectations.
  • Expert operating knowledge of engineering systems to include advanced diagnostics and repairs.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of Oracle processes and procedures and industry standards to resolve non-routine issues.
  • Utilizes safe working practices at an expert level and evaluates the safe working practices of others.
  • Interacts with other engineering disciplines and works with colocation providers' engineering teams to ensure mechanical systems are adequately designed, specified, and installed.
  • Contributes to identifying and developing training programs for newer members of the team.
  • Provides expert input for effective contract administration including generation and review of contracts, change orders, cost forecasts, and other pertinent documents.
  • Mentors junior team members and directs all internal and external project team members delivering datacenters or part-datacenters for Oracle.
  • Contributes to creating and maintaining best in class policies and procedures and assures adherence to developed standards and policy through review of documentation.
  • Consistently solves complex, cross-functional issues requiring independent action and a high degree of initiative to resolve.
  • Develops and executes projects and leads internal and/or external engineering or construction related seminars/conferences.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in the datacenter space as a design mechanical engineer.
  • Expertise in engineering systems, including advanced diagnostics and repairs.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle processes and procedures and industry standards.
  • Ability to apply safe working practices at an expert level.
  • Experience in mentoring and training team members.
  • Strong communication skills for cross-functional interactions and technical writing.
  • Ability to solve complex, cross-functional issues independently.
