About the position

The Senior Data Center Infrastructure Technician role at Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is a permanent on-site position based in Abilene, TX. This position involves managing a variety of data center systems and ensuring the delivery of solutions to OCI's key customers. The technician will be responsible for vendor management, quality assurance, project planning, and control, while also maintaining effective communication with the site team and installation partners. The role requires a strong focus on safety, quality standards, and adherence to operational procedures.

Responsibilities

• Manage on-site vendor activities related to connectivity for expansions and projects.
• Perform physical inspections to ensure vendor work meets quality standards.
• Create and maintain project scope, schedules, and achievements.
• Collaborate with the Data Center Operations team throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure vendor cabling and fiber equipment meet OCI specifications.
• Manage daily work through internal tools like JIRA and Confluence.
• Identify and respond to risks and high-priority issues effectively.
• Document activities and ensure consistency with standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Train peers in industry standards and new technologies.

Requirements

• 3 to 5 years of experience with structured cabling.
• Expert knowledge of industry cable testing procedures and equipment for multiple cabling systems (Copper/fiber testing, OTDR, VFL, etc.).
• Strong understanding of industry cabling standards.
• Excellent time management and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Strong interest in learning new data center networking concepts and technology.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• 2-year or 4-year degree or relevant work experience.
• 3 years of experience in structured cabling (Copper/Fiber) and testing of cables.
• Ability to read and comprehend cut-sheets and cabling matrices.
