About the position

As a Microsoft Senior Data Center Inventory & Asset Technician (DIAT) with the U.S. Government Airgap Team, you will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing the inventory and asset management processes within our data centers. This position involves prioritizing and assigning ticketed work to technicians, providing guidance on logistics tasks, and ensuring the accuracy of inventory balances. You will have the opportunity to showcase your expertise in standard processes and procedures for Inventory & Asset Management while also developing your mentorship skills to help accelerate the growth of your peers. This role is integral to supporting our U.S. Government customers and their federal missions, as well as contributing to the broader objectives of Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team. In this position, you will be responsible for delivering core infrastructure and foundational technologies that power Microsoft's online services, including Bing, Office 365, Xbox, OneDrive, and the Microsoft Azure platform. Responsibilities

  • Prioritize ticketing queues, resolve escalations, and clear blocking issues to enable continued delivery of Inventory and Asset Management (IAM) activities.
  • Provide task-specific guidance to a team of technicians responsible for preparing and executing incoming/outgoing deliveries and documenting inbound/outbound packages.
  • Coordinate with external stakeholders including third-party warehouses, Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) vendors, and suppliers to facilitate inbound and outbound deliveries.
  • Perform assigned tasks and escalate issues during high-volume work activity or escalation-based situations.
  • Leverage process knowledge and technical skills to resolve escalations and clear blocking issues, enabling on-site and/or remote data center support activities.
  • Maintain a stakeholder focus to improve quality and ensure that the customer receives the highest return on their investment.
  • Ensure teams maintain and perform the steps required to keep the inventory balance accurate.
  • Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) about the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) warranty process, ensuring teams process failed vendor hardware devices using tools and processes for RMAs.
  • Manage the schedule of DBD destruction or shredding in partnership with senior leadership and ensure team compliance with all processes and procedures.
  • Attend, conduct, or assist in conducting daily safety briefings, complete required safety training, and provide guidance to technicians to facilitate compliance with safety procedures.
  • Seek out opportunities to contribute to workstreams and evolve existing workstream processes, services, and solutions toward greater simplification and automation.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in inventory and asset management processes within a data center environment.
  • Strong understanding of logistics and supply chain management, particularly in relation to inbound and outbound deliveries.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage ticketing queues effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills for coordinating with external stakeholders and team members.
  • Experience in mentoring and providing guidance to junior technicians.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures and compliance in a data center environment.
  • Familiarity with Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) processes and warranty management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with automation tools and processes in inventory management.
  • Certifications related to inventory management or logistics.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and other Microsoft cloud services.
  • Previous experience working with U.S. Government contracts or clients.
