About the position

Cloud Operation & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud service. As a Senior Data Center System Architect in the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Office of CO+I, you will be responsible for responding to future market and business requirements by designing new data center architecture and product solutions that enable new capabilities and improve the performance, efficiency, and reliability of our data centers. You will work with a cross-functional team of engineers, researchers, and business partners to identify customer needs, generate innovative ideas, and deliver high-quality solutions. You will also collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to ensure alignment with standards and specifications. Our infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 100 data centers and 1 million servers. Our foundation is built upon and managed by a team of subject matter experts working to support services for more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries worldwide. This role is located either in one or all hub locations - Atlanta, GA, Washington, D.C., Redmond, WA, San Antonio, TX, or Phoenix, AZ. Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates must relocate or reside within 50 miles of the hub office location. This role is eligible for hybrid or remote work, up to 50%. Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership for the system architecture and engineering team in developing innovative and scalable systems and products for data centers.
  • Define the system requirements, specifications, architecture, and interface for the product, ensuring alignment with customer needs, industry standards, and regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, such as product management, software engineering, hardware engineering, networking, testing, and validation, to ensure the quality, reliability, and performance of the product.
  • Manage the system integration, verification, and validation activities, including conducting prototype testing, field trials, and customer feedback sessions.
  • Provide technical guidance, mentoring, and coaching to the system engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 4+ years experience in engineering (mechanical, electrical engineering, architecture) or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience managing cross-functional and/or cross-team projects.
  • 2+ years experience with mission-critical systems like data centers, healthcare, oil, military, or utilities.
  • 2+ years experience with designing systems and/or developing products for industrial or mission-critical environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in mechanical, electrical engineering, architecture with cross-disciplined system design (electrical, Information Technology (IT)/Telecom, supervisory control and data acquisition).
  • Experience with data center thermal system design, analysis, and optimization of cooling systems for data center environments, hydronic, cooling distribution, liquid to liquid and liquid to air heat exchangers.
  • Experience with data center electrical system design, energy backup and uninterrupted power supply, medium voltage switchgear, low voltage power distribution.
