About The Position

As a Senior Data Center Technician (SDCT) at Microsoft, you will provide IT support for secure access workstations, laptops, servers, and conference room audio/visual systems. This role is crucial in maintaining the infrastructure that powers Microsoft's cloud services, ensuring that devices are updated and operational. You will also be involved in training and mentoring less experienced technicians, contributing to a culture of safety and efficiency within the data center environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent with basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • 2+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's degree in Computer Science or related field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • 2+ years experience in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 datacenter environment.
  • Certifications such as CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Data Center Foundation Certification (DCFC), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP).

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance on standard processes for preparing, installing, troubleshooting, and decommissioning IT datacenter technologies.
  • Maintain expertise in cabling infrastructure, network, server, and storage equipment interactions.
  • Review Process Change Notifications (PCNs) and share relevant information to enable efficient workflow.
  • Complete assigned tickets efficiently in alignment with Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Assist less experienced technicians with complex tickets and escalate challenging issues as needed.
  • Prepare, stage, and perform startups and shutdowns for hardware according to specific instructions.
  • Perform quality control activities and assessments of work performed by other technicians.
  • Identify errors in deployment standards and escalate to relevant technicians for corrections.
  • Apply advanced diagnostics and troubleshooting expertise to resolve technical issues with minimal disruption.
  • Participate in safety briefings and comply with safety procedures and protocols.
