About the position

As a Microsoft Senior Data Center Technician (DCT), you will demonstrate expertise in standard processes and procedures for preparing, installing, performing diagnostics, troubleshooting, replacing, and/or decommissioning equipment. You will play a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's online services, while also providing guidance to other technicians and contributing to service quality and efficiency improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate expertise in standard processes and procedures, and review process changes to evaluate their impact.
  • Ensure compliance with Global Data Center Operations and service-level policies, and complete assigned tickets efficiently.
  • Delegate hardware installation and other work to technicians, and prepare and perform hardware startups and shutdowns.
  • Ensure other technicians are performing post-execution quality checks and verifying compliance with safety protocols and deployment standards.
  • Apply advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise to quickly identify the causes of issues and guide technicians to replace faulty components.
  • Follow procedures to communicate and report any incidents, and decommission hardware for complex changes.
  • Contribute to issue tracking and client relations, help collect service metrics, and maintain awareness of key performance indicators.
  • Demonstrate understanding of cross-functional support processes, and train other technicians while on the job.
  • Facilitate compliance with safety procedures while following all safety, security, and data management procedures.
  • Reinforce a positive team environment by sharing information and responding to feedback.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and basic knowledge of computer hardware and components.
  • 2+ years' experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts, including shift assignments during non-standard business hours that may include evening, nighttime, weekends and/or holidays.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate degree in computer science or other field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 3+ years' experience supporting IT equipment or related technology.
  • 2+ years' experience working in a production, mission-critical 24x7x365 data center environment.
  • Applicable certifications: ASICS/Inventory Control, CompTIA (A+, Server+, Network+), Basic Structure Cabling (BSC), Data Center Foundation Certification (DCFC), Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP), Vendor-Specific Network Certifications.
